Heart Eyes

Heart Eyes introduces a new slasher villain with the potential to become the next Michael Myers or Ghostface. Set against the backdrop of Valentine’s Day, the premise of a killer targeting couples had the makings of a fun romantic horror flick. Unfortunately, the film falls a bit flat.

While the idea was promising, Heart Eyes leans too heavily into its comedic elements, sacrificing the suspense and fear that make slashers memorable. The balance between horror and humor feels off, especially for fans who enjoy the thrilling mystery of films like Scream. The killer, Heart Eyes, lacked the menace and intrigue needed to stand out as a memorable antagonist, with a predictable backstory that didn’t add much to the suspense.

However, the film isn’t without its strengths. The chemistry between the two leads shines, and their journey through the chaos of escaping Heart Eyes provides some genuinely entertaining moments. Their performances add heart (pun intended) to an otherwise formulaic plot.

Overall, Heart Eyes is a decent watch with fun character moments, but it misses the chance to become a standout in the slasher genre.
