Superman

Superman is a refreshing take on what once was the darker, more cynical DCEU vision from Man of Steel. Instead of being gritty and grim, this version brings back the hope, optimism, and vibrant color that define Superman. It’s not an origin story, we jump into a world where Superman is already established, coexisting with other superheroes. While I was initially nervous that this would feel like another ensemble Justice League film, it pleasantly surprised me. The story is firmly centered on Superman himself.

What truly elevates this movie is the message beneath the cape. There’s a powerful commentary on immigration, power, and prejudice. Superman is portrayed as a protector of people, especially the vulnerable; while Lex Luthor stands as a symbol of greed and manipulation, someone who wants to own rather than serve. The film draws clear parallels to how society often treats immigrants, and how easily power can blind us to what’s right.

Visually, it feels like a comic book come to life—there’s a bold, animated energy to the cinematography and action that fans have been craving. And David Cornwell? He might just be my favorite Superman yet. He brings heart, humility, and strength in a way that feels both classic and new.

As the first film in the new DC Universe under James Gunn, Superman does a phenomenal job resetting the tone. It’s the Superman we’ve been waiting!
