Good Boy

Good Boy is a refreshing and deeply unsettling entry in the horror genre, offering a truly unique perspective — that of a loyal dog. From beginning to end, the film unfolds entirely through the eyes of this canine protagonist, creating a hauntingly intimate experience. We never see any human faces, which only amplifies the isolation and confusion as supernatural events begin to unfold within the house.

What makes Good Boy so powerful is its emotional grounding. The dog isn’t just a passive observer; it’s a hero — aware of the danger long before its owner is, yet limited in what it can do to protect them. This dynamic creates a constant tension that grips you from the start. The film reminded me of Courage the Cowardly Dog, but stripped of its cartoonish humor and replaced with raw realism and dread.

At just over an hour long, the pacing is relentless. There’s no filler, no downtime — only a steady build of fear and empathy. You truly feel for the dog, whose bravery in the face of the unknown becomes both heartbreaking and inspiring.

If there were an Oscar category for animal performances, this dog would absolutely take home the gold. Its expressiveness, physicality, and emotional depth carry the entire film. Good Boy proves that horror doesn’t need elaborate effects or dialogue to get under your skin — sometimes, all it takes is seeing fear through the eyes of man’s best friend.
