Brings Arcade Nostalgia Home
Category: Shooter Published: 3/9/26
G’AIM’E sent me its Lightgun system to test, and as someone who grew up playing arcade shooters, the experience immediately took me back. There is something special about picking up a light gun, aiming directly at the screen, and reacting as quickly as possible.
Instead of searching for an old arcade cabinet, G’AIM’E brings that same excitement directly into the living room.
Modern Technology, Classic Gameplay
Traditional light guns were designed for older CRT televisions, making them difficult to use with today’s screens. G’AIM’E modernizes the concept with AI-assisted tracking and a camera built inside the Lightgun’s barrel.
This allows the system to work with modern televisions without requiring a CRT screen or traditional sensor bar. The technology may be updated, but the gameplay still captures the simplicity that made light-gun shooters so entertaining. You pick up the Lightgun, point it at the screen, and jump into the action.
That physical interaction helps the experience stand apart from playing a shooter with a standard controller. It feels more active, immediate, and connected to the arcade games that inspired it.
Celebrating 30 Years of Time Crisis
The system arrives at the perfect time as Time Crisis celebrates its 30th anniversary.
Time Crisis remains one of the most iconic arcade shooters ever created, known for its fast-paced action, timed encounters, and memorable cover mechanics. Playing it with the G’AIM’E Lightgun felt like revisiting an important part of arcade history through modern technology.
I received the Premium Edition, which also included a commemorative Time Crisis pin. It is a small addition, but it gives the package extra personality and makes it feel more special for collectors and longtime fans.
Bringing the Arcade Home
What impressed me most was how G’AIM’E preserves the feeling of classic light-gun gaming while making it accessible for a modern setup.
It does not try to completely reinvent the genre. Instead, it updates the technology needed to enjoy it. For players who grew up visiting arcades, the system offers a strong sense of nostalgia. For younger gamers, it introduces a style of play they may never have experienced before.
Final Impressions
G’AIM’E offers a fun and accessible way to enjoy classic arcade shooters at home. The AI-assisted tracking and built-in camera help bring the light-gun format to modern televisions, while Time Crisis gives the experience genuine nostalgic value.
It is an exciting reminder of why arcade shooters became so iconic and proves that the experience can still be entertaining decades later.
The arcade did not disappear. G’AIM’E simply found a new way to bring it home.
